I just received my Bowflex SelectTech 552 adjustable dumbbells from Amazon, purchased recently in late 2025, so these should be the redesigned “Results Series” version with the supposedly upgraded metal selector disks meant to fix the issues that led to the big 2025 recall.
Unfortunately, the problems persist. The plates still rattle excessively during any dynamic movement—like curls or presses—making workouts noisy and distracting. The locking mechanism feels only marginally better; weights sometimes hang up when trying to dock or undock them, and I’m constantly worried a plate might loosen despite the “enhancements.” They’re bulky, the handle grip is slippery when sweaty, and for the premium price, this just doesn’t feel like a reliable or high-quality piece of equipment.
I expected the redesign to fully resolve the safety and durability concerns, but it falls short. Regret the purchase—looking to return and switch to a competitor’s adjustable dumbbells instead. Not worth the risk or frustration.
